“Father, getting around to write this letter has bothered me for a long time. I would not want any of my grandchildren to wonder or worry about these things as I did for so long. And here is this sweet daughter of mine that wants to be a help to me in every way possible… here we are in this lovely bedroom, having my coffee and she has offered to type my letter. That will go faster. I have had a hard time writing letters after Bernice and Myrtle went on to Glory.”

Dear Stadem Grandchildren:

January 19, 2013

This is Cora. I’m one of the 7 girls in the Stadem family, just between Myrtle and Alida. So I was #4 in line.

One of my reasons for writing to you today is to tell you how I suffered. Some of my sisters would tell me that I was saved when I was born in 1915… when I was a baby, but I couldn’t find peace in that. I want to tell it like it was. I had a lot of worry and I didn’t want to disappoint my parents. I had to study the catechism and memorize some verses for the Pastor to listen to me. I cannot remember which ones they were. My worries continued. I felt that I was wrong about thinking I was saved when I was born and baptized two weeks later. I suffered for a long time.

I suffered all the way through my studies at Augustana Academy. But one day I was coming out of my last class. There was only one student in there as the teacher had already gone out. So I recall how I went on my knees and admitted that I was a lost sinner. I thanked Him, the Lord, for dying for me. What I said, I said out loud; I don’t even know who that other student was or where she went. I thanked Him for saving me and my peace was impossible to describe! It was peace, peace, peace which I had never had before. The impressive part of it was the peace that overtook me, like nothing I have ever had in my life.

I am a great grandmother now, 40 times. March 5th I will be 98. I have such peace about my salvation that I have never doubted it after all these years.

Love from Cora,

Great Grandmother to many of you and a Great Aunt to many others.

Acts 16:31 “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house.”

1 John 5:11-13 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God: that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith. That not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Many people have gotten saved with these verses.

(My Mother dictated this letter and the verses while I, Carleen Newton, typed it and sent it to you from my e-mail address )
