PLAIN VIEW HERITAGE FARM,

RURAL BRYANT, SD, PRESENTS:

The Lutheran Fellowship League Letter Format,

Circa 1947-48

Note: This letter format gives us information on the League and its officers and duties, and also the purpose and guiding scripture expressing the League's reason for existence: its ministries. Not a social club, the important thing it accomplished was the encouragement and building up of the saints, SO THAT THEY COULD DO THE WORK OF MINISTRY.

Sorry, we do not presently know what has become of the League, or the Brookings/Watertown Circuit that included Bryant. Perhaps we will learn, perhaps not. But we have evidences of it, and how vital a service it performed during its decades of existence. Our Stadem families' heads were very active in it, and it provided the spiritual support and the fellowship and the prayer that were needed for our grandparents to launch out into their own Mexican mission support work.

In many cases, it was a largely unthanked, anonymous, but nevertheless authentic and very fruitful work, taking place in sites of relative obscurity, untrumpeted but all the more precious in God's eyes because it was conducted in genuine humility by God's humble servants, all valunteers and unpaid.

This truly was Haugean in spirit and practice in the best sense, exemplifying the vibrant essence of Haugean "lay ministry" that took place within the Lutheran churches, not in opposition or rivalry to them, but enhancing the the spiritual life of the believers in Jesus as personal Savior and Lord, and extending the outreach of the churches into missionary work and tract ministry and even child evangelism.--Ed.
