"The Spiritual Rescue of Cora Stadem (Taylor),

Her Testimony of Salvation at AA,

Now Given 2013 by a 98 Year Old!

Pencil Drawing of Cora Stadem, by her Nephew, Ron Ginther

Cora Taylor, the fourth child of Alfred & Bergit Stadem, wrote about a special memory--when she submitted her life to the Lord:

When I was young I suffered mentally because I didn't know if I was saved. My older sisters would tell me that I was saved when I was born and baptized in 1915, but I couldn't find peace in that. I worried about this, but didn't want to disappoint my parents. I studied my Catechism and memorized Bible verses and recited before the Pastor, but still I worried.

I continued to suffer all the way through my studies at Augustana Academy. One day after my last class, with perhaps only one person left in the room, I recall how I dropped to my knees and admitted out loud that I was a lost sinner. I thanked the Lord for dying for me and saving me. The peace that i received [immediately thereafter] was impossible to describe! It was peace, peace which I had never had before.

The impressive part of it was the peace that overtook me, like nothing I have ever had in my life.

Now I am a Great Grandmother--40 times, and was 98 on March 5. I have such peace about my salvation that I have never doubted it after all these years.

Acts 16: 31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

I John 5: 11-13 "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God: that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

Ephesians 2: 8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith. That not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any many should boast."

Many people have been saved because of these verses. Years ago I prayed that all my children would WANT to be missionaries--not MADE to be missionaries. So in June when all my children were here to visit me, we sang "He Giveth More Grace" one morning in chapel [at the New Tribes Mission Peniel Bible Institute, in Brazil], and I realized I had my answer to my long ago prayer.

The joy was so fabulous because each one of my children married Christians with missionary hearts. Some precious moments were spent with them. Hudson Taylor came from the Pataxo Indian work in the State of Bahia in Brazil, and Calvin & Gwen Taylor came from Knoxville, TN. Beth Ann & Dan Templeton live here--right next door, and Ken & Carleen Newton live right here with me [in the Cora Taylor Guesthouse on the Peniel Bible Institute campus, Jacutinga, Brazil]. That gave us time to be together. I certainly appreciate your prayers for me--that the Lord would keep me from falling or stumbling. Anybody who is nearing 100 really appreciates people praying for them. Lovingly, Cora Taylor

Note: Cora Stadem Taylor has been a missionary in Brazil for over 60 years, and she has not stopped her work as missionary even at her advanced age. Hundreds, and no doubt thousands, of souls have become believers in Jesus thanks to her Gospel ministry. This is yet another evidence of the life and soul-transforming spiritual environment of Augustana Academy, which was no ordinary school because it was bathed in the prayers of faithful saints all through its 100+ years of existence.
